We were took a day off this weekend so we're a day late...but that doesn't mean we stopped the content. Take a look below. Here’s what happened last week:
- A TikTok reflecting on growth as an attending(very mature, we know)
- A podcast on the critical skills needed to prepare for RSI
- A podcast on neuro critical care cases
- Last chance for early bird pricing for ResusX:ROSC!
- The June ResusNation videos will be out Thursday
- This week is our Grand Rounds on LVADs with Dr. Colin McCloskey
There’s no time to waste, it’s time for Last Week Now!

I've grown up a lot since I was a fellow and then junior faculty. I wanted to share my own experience in being a consultant and hope it helps someone out there. Remember, sometimes the person on the other end of the the phone is scared and doesn't have the same skill set as you...and it's up to YOU to save a critically ill patient.
Enjoy the video.
In this video, Dr. Steve Haywood discusses crucial preparations and considerations before initiating intubation in critical care and emergency medicine settings. He emphasizes the importance of being aware of potential complications and taking necessary steps to prevent adverse outcomes. Dr. Haywood introduces a mnemonic, SOAP P-ME-E, to guide the pre-intubation checklist. The mnemonic includes the following key elements: suction, oxygenation, airway equipment, pharmacology, positioning, monitor setup, emergency backup plan, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring. Dr. Haywood highlights the gravity of every intubation having the potential for adverse events, stressing that even successful intubations can lead to death. He explains the risks associated with post-intubation cardiac arrest and the high mortality rates associated with such events. The discussion delves into the selection of induction agents, particularly Ketamine, highlighting its advantages over other agents while acknowledging its potential complications. The importance of proper positioning, monitoring, and emergency backup plans, including video laryngoscopy and bougie usage, are also emphasized. This informative video provides critical insights and practical tips for healthcare professionals involved in intubation procedures, with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient safety and optimizing outcomes. Remember to like and subscribe to our channel for more valuable content on critical care and emergency medicine!

This episode of the ResusNation Podcast features Dr. Evie Marcolini. Evie discusses a case involving a 64-year-old male pedestrian who was hit by a car. The patient has a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 7, no focal neuro deficits, blood pressure of 115/62, oxygen saturation of 85%, temperature of 35.7, and heart rate of 95. The hosts discuss the importance of airway management and performing a neuro exam before intubation. They also emphasize the need to examine the spine and abdomen before administering sedation. The hosts suggest putting the head of the bed up 35 degrees to help with ICP and using agents like ketamine for sedation. They also recommend doing a FAST and EFA to rule out other injuries. Overall, the hosts provide valuable insights into managing a neuro case in the emergency department.
