Welcome to "LAST WEEK NOW!"

Last week was filled with Elvis suits, life-threatening rashes, cardiac arrest discussions, new monthly videos, and CHF management. We also announced our RX Rounds speaker for March. There's a lot to unpackage here so let's get into Last Week, NOW!

Patients who present in acute CHF exacerbation can cause a lot of panic; they are hypertensive, hypoxemic, and tachypneic, and are high risk for intubation and possible arrest. The good news is that many of these patients will respond to high-dose nitroglycerin. Check out this video to learn more. let's get into Last Week, NOW!

Anyone who has been in critical care and emergency medicine for a while knows about Chris Nickson and Mike Cadogan's Life in the Fast Lane. I do feel, however, that this generation of trainees doesn't even know about it. LITFL is the originally FOAMed resource, so we definitely have to cover it here.

LITFL is an online resource that is a reference with short format reviews, and an image library, including ECGs and radiology. You can find almost any topic here, and it's a great read at home or on a shift when you need a quick refresher. Everything here is FOAMed so you can use it for presentations or your own teaching. I often use this site for materials in my presentations.

LITFL is a resource that is constantly being updated. I personally know the people behind the site and they are not motivated by financial gain but operating on the sheer love of free medical education.

If you're an All-Access Member, then get ready for some great content this month. We have FIVE videos hand-picked by our staff that are high-yield and our most highly watched. We have Joe Bellezzo talking about eCPR in the Emergency Room, Sara Gray talking about post-arrest care, Terren Trott talking about using a vent during a code, Ashika Jain talking about treating elevated ICP, and a Best of ResusX complication video. That is a ton of content to take in, but watch they are available all of March. All-Access members will find the videos in their video library.

If you're not an All-Access member and are looking for a way to keep up with the rapidly changing landscape in resuscitation check out the All-Access Membership (more about it at the end of the newsletter).

The Critical Care Lounge ditched YouTube and went to Instagram this week for a mini-discussion on modern cardiac arrest management. Adam and Elvis spoke about drugs, running a code, the airway, and so much more. If you participate in cardiac arrest, then you do not want to miss this discussion on replay. We took your questions live and also answered them in the comments section. Adam and I will be back on YouTube on March 15th.

Every month we bring you a free grand round with the best speakers in critical care and resuscitation. This week we announced our March speaker, Dr. Evie Marcolini. She is an expert in NeuroCritical Care and Neuro Emergencies in the Emergency department. We are proud to welcome her on March 30th to talk about Managing Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. She will go beyond talking about head CT and LP and talking about the acute management of these patients. If you've ever seen Evie speak at a national or international conference then you know she is an outstanding educator.

The RX Rounds are FREE for everyone to attend, but you have to register here to attend. The March lecture will be one of our best, so don't miss it! If you're an All-Access member then you'll receive your Backstage link to have a private Q&A with Dr. Marcolini after the talk.

Last week I sat down with Dr. Rachel Jennings, faculty at Cooper Medical School at Rowan University and we talked about rashes. Wait, before you click away, these are life-threatening rashes...the rashes that come to the ICU, the rashes that you need to quickly recognize and take care of. This podcast is filled with all the "what you need to know" facts and is a great listen from a great teacher in Dr. Jennings.

The podcast is FREE for All-Access Members.
